Owning property in the UK remains an aspiration for many individuals for a multitude of reasons. However the UK Government  has significantly changed the landscape for non residents owning UK property.  

Ongoing  interactions  with different Government services will be required, each requiring their own reference numbers, compliance route and deadlines.

The Register of Overseas Entities is the latest compliance obligation to be introduced: with a 31 January 2023 deadline for all relevant owners, a hefty £2,500 fine for failing to register and an intense identity verification process.  

Furthermore property transfers  in the UK can no longer be registered by a non resident entity (non natural person) without a Registration number. In practice this means most purchases and sales will not proceed until the Registration is completed so any entity contemplating a transaction before 31 January 2023 is advised to register immediately.
